What is green coffee?

Green coffee beans are essentially non-roasted seeds of the coffee called Arabic fruit. In short, green coffee is nothing but green coffee beans in their natural form. The coffee beans are most familiar with undergoing roasting and processing for commercial use till they turn brown and when the beans are soaked to create a concentrated extract which is referred to as green coffee.

What are the benefits of green coffee?

Green coffee is undoubtedly the healthier option when compared to its roasted counterpart and here’s why. Coffee beans contain two essential phytochemicals, caffeine and chlorogenic acid. However, during the roasting process, the coffee bean loses traces of chlorogenic acid, which is an excellent source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are pivotal in neutralising and eliminating free radicals from the bloodstream, tissues and organs and preventing the process of oxidization in the body. Raw coffee is a major source of chlorogenic acid compounds, and it has been observed to be highly beneficial in lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The antioxidant benefits and the protection against lipid peroxidation are higher in green coffee when compared to roasted coffee beans. Research shows that chlorogenic acid helps to improve insulin sensitivity, prevent fat absorption, and boost fat metabolism in the liver, thereby aiding weight loss.
The Green coffee extract also has a lesser amount of caffeine as compared to roasted coffee and helps in retaining this acid.
